2023 Haunted House Build

I worked with my design mentor, Scott Banks, on building a walkthrough haunt experience at his house for Halloween. The entire structure was built from carved foam and told a story through multiple rooms and displays.

I worked with him from the concept up to the installation/build, decoration, and production. Our overall story was that Scott was a necromancer and this is his mansion where he’s bringing things back to life. It featured a dragon’s nest, a haunted hallway, a mad scientist lab, an Egyptian tomb, an endless candle hall, and a man-eating plant garden.

Hand Painted Sign

This sign was built from carved wood and featured hand painted letters.

Haunted Hallway

On the interior of the castle’s tower you see the dragon’s nest.

The hall featured creepy lighting fixtures and portraits with glowing eyes. Within the hall was also a motion activated haunted doll that would scare guests.

The foam walls were carved to look like old walls with peeling wallpaper and exposed wood beams.

Egyptian Tomb

I decorated the base of the tomb with sand, relics, a hand-painted mummy head, and jewels. The mummy’s eyes were motion activated when guests reached for the jewel. The pedestal featured a painted slab of rock with cut vinyl letters. The backdrop was painted on the same textured foam.

The Egyptian tomb wall was created using a mix of sand, gesso, and paint which was carved to look like you broke into the space. It was marked with an overhead jewel in the rock work. The pedestal was also painted to match the space.
